Dr Richard Sezibera-Philantropist
Dr Richard Sezibera is the Secretary General of the East African Community
Dr. Richard Sezibera was born on 5 June, 1964 in Kigali, Rwanda.

He was educated in Burundi, and Uganda, graduating in human medicine and surgery from Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda in 1989.

Dr. Sezibera then practiced in Mbaya Hospital, and the hospital of Mbele in Uganda, in the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology before joining the Rwandan Patriotic Army. He served as a field medical officer for the Rwandan Patriotic Army until l994, rising to the rank of Major in the armed forces. In July 1994, Dr. Sezibera was appointed physician to the President of the Republic of Rwanda and also served as military aide to the President. In l995, he became a Member of Parliament. He was elected President of the Parliamentary Commission on Social Affairs, which exercised oversight over the government departments mandated to deal with issues of health, education, social security, the environment, youth programs, the disabled, and the promotion of gender equality. He also served as a member of the Commission on Defense and National Security.

Dr. Sezibera was appointed Ambassador to Washington in May 1999 with concurrent accreditation to Mexico, Argentina and Brazil. Dr. Richard is married to Mrs. Eustochie Sezibera nee Agazaro and has four children, one daughter and three sons.

Dr. Sezibera is widely traveled and has been a participant and speaker at a number of international conferences. Dr. Sezibera is a member of the Rwanda Medical Association.

African Success:Awa Marie Coll Seck Awa Marie Coll Seck (b. in 1951) is a Senegalese scientist and the executive secretary of the Roll Back Malaria Partnership and a former minister of health for Senegal.

Prof Awa Marie Coll-Seck has been Executive Secretary of the Roll Back Malaria Partnership since March 2004. Her distinguished international and academic career in public health and medicine includes serving as Minister of Health of the Government of the Republic of Senegal, and Director for Policy, Strategy and Research of the Joint United Nations Programme for HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS).

Awa Marie Coll-Seck was born in 1951 in Dakar, Senegal. After gaining a degree in medicine in 1978 from the University of Dakar, Awa Marie Coll-Seck served for more than ten years as a specialist in infectious diseases in leading hospitals in Dakar, Senegal and Lyon, France. In 1989, she was appointed Professor of Medicine and Infectious Diseases at the University of Dakar and Chief of Service for Infectious Diseases at the University Hospital in Dakar.

As Minister of Health in Senegal, she has initiated a far-reaching reform of the health sector in Senegal and engaged partners in the implementation and expansion of public health programmes and mobilized political commitment within her country for health as a key to economic and social development.

From 1996 to 2001, Awa Marie Coll-Seck served as a Director of the Joint United Nations Programme for HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), leading the Department of Policy, Strategy and Research, and subsequently was named Director of the UNAIDS Department of Country and Regional Support for Africa, Asia, Eastern and Central Europe, and Latin America and the Caribbean.

She is the author of over 150 publications on subjects including malaria, measles, tetanus, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS and cardiovascular diseases.

She is a member of the Liberal People's Party and was previously a member of the Riksdag (Parliament) between 2002 and 2006. She assumed the office of Minister for Integration and Gender Equality on October 6, 2006.

African Success:Grace Alele WilliamsGrace Alele Williams(b. December 16,1932) In 1963, Williams became the first Nigerian woman to earn any doctorate – in this case, for mathematics. She later became the first woman appointed vice-chancellor of a Nigerian university.

Mrs. Williams made her mark as a first class academician and later proved herself as a skilled administrator, she is one of the first Nigerian women to obtain a PhD in mathematics. She was also the country's first female vice-chancellor (University of Benin 1985-1991). Born in Warri December16, 1932, she attended the prestigious Queens College, Yaba from where she went on to the University of Ibadan, the University of Vermount and later, University of Chicago, both in the United States of America. In 1974 she became the first female professor of mathematics.

African Success:René NGONGO

African Success:René NGONGO René Ngongo born October 20, 1961 is a Congolese biologist first national from the Democratic Republic of Congo to win the Right Livelihood Award, sometimes known as the "alternative Nobel" for championing forest protection and social justice in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). .

Ngongo, founded the influential "Organisation Concertee des Ecologistes et Amis de la Nature" (OCEAN) in 1996 to give a voice and infrastructure to Congolese civil society in its fight against forest destruction. A University of Kisangani graduate, he is a renowned ecologist, environmentalist and human rights campaigner. Ngongo is an expert on the impacts of environmental destruction in the Congo Forest Basin. He has also worked extensively with forest communities informing them of their rights with respect to both forest protection and environmental conservation.

until her appointment, she was the immediate past minister in charge of solid minerals. Before then she was the minister of transport.

She came into the Yar'adua government in 2007 from her position as a Director Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC). She is a shell girl having grown up with her parents who were employees of shell.

Allison-Madueke studied architecture in Washington D.C. before returning to Nigeria in 1992 to work for her father's old employer -Shell. Over the next 15 years she rose to become Shell's first female director in Nigeria, completing an MBA at Cambridge University along the way, before she was appointed minister in 2007.

With only 13 months before the end of this administration, Allison-Madueke — whose first name Diezani means “look before you leap” in her local dialect — faces a tight deadline. She will have to oversee the implementation of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) when passed into law by the National Assembly. She also will be saddled with the responsibility of administering the deregulation of the downstream sector of the oil and gas industry
